A driving school is a place where you can learn everything about the way to drive a vehicle. Usually, a driving school offers courses for all types of vehicles – be it two wheelers or four wheelers. Most of the students enrolling themselves in a driving school are the ones who have bought a new vehicle and want to learn to drive it. Though, one can learn from a friend without attending a driving school, but it is recommended to join one, as they are the experts. Some of the tips given by the instructors would also be helpful in enhancing the performance of the vehicle and even elongating its usable life.

A driving school gives all types of motoring lesions, which usually consists of theory as well as practical. The course normally starts with theory notes being distributed among the students. Once, the student has gone through the notes, its practical applicability is first taught in class and then practically in the school’s tutorial car. One can also learn to drive a two-wheeler in such a school. Though, the instructor needs to be more vigilant in a two-wheeler than a four-wheeler. Driving a scooter or a bike involves balancing the vehicle too, which could be a problem for the instructor who sits at the backseat.

But, the instructors are well trained and treat their students with utmost impartiality and ensure that the students learn everything within the course duration. Once the student completes his theory and practical examination, the concerned authorities issue a driving permit entitling the holder to drive a vehicle on the streets. Before giving such a permit, the officer in-charge may take an additional test as well. Such permits are vehicle specific and vary with vehicle to vehicle.

Once the driving permit is received, the student is free to take his vehicle wherever he wants and has to pay the necessary annual taxes. Though, he is entitled to drive anywhere, there are certain rules laid down which needs to be adhered to strictly. It may include traffic signals, lane discipline, number of passengers to be carried at a time, not causing inconvenience to fellow drivers, etc. The permit also has a time period after which it needs to be renewed at the respective places. Different permits are issued for different types of vehicles and hence a two-wheeler permit holder cannot drive a four-wheeler and vice-versa. Similar is the case with light vehicles and heavy vehicles.
